What PointRover gives your assistant

The books record what has already happened. PointRover gives the assistant the world the business sits in: the industry and where the business stands in it, every input it buys and what is moving upstream of it, the duties on what it imports, the rules it answers to, and what its region pays and spends. Every figure links to the record it came from, and the assistant can cite it.

Connect it

PointRover is a remote MCP server at one address.

The address

https://pointrover.com/mcp

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Paste the address, sign in with your PointRover account, and pick the business this connection reads. Each connection reads one business.

Name: PointRover
Remote MCP server URL: https://pointrover.com/mcp

Any other MCP client uses the same address. The server speaks Streamable HTTP and signs clients in with OAuth 2.1, using the authorization code flow with PKCE and dynamic client registration, so a client that supports MCP authorization finds the sign-in settings at the address. The configuration file's name and keys vary by client.

Reading demand figures

The business's own record lists, for the county of each of its sites, the published figures for its own industries and for the industries that buy from it: County Business Patterns, the 2022 Economic Census and, where it is out, QCEW. Each figure is the publisher's number with its period, its release date, the next release expected and a receipt. A suppressed or withheld figure is shown that way, with the broader figures beside it, and is never filled in. Nothing here is estimated, ranked, sorted or multiplied.

A reader can work some things out from them. A location quotient: QCEW publishes its own, and a shift-share needs two releases. Penetration: the business's own sales over the county's households or establishments. A retail gap: Economic Census sales against households times a national average from the Consumer Expenditure Survey, which is an allocation and not a measured market. And the RIMS II rule, min(LQ, 1) × use share, which undercounts trade where a county both buys and sells the same goods.

Before you connect

You need a PointRover account, made at pointrover.com, with at least one business added and its board built. A first build takes about an hour. Pricing is on the pricing section of pointrover.com.

The assistant sees only the businesses in your workspace, and each connection reads the one business you picked when you signed in.

Errors

When a call fails, the answer is a sentence that says what to do. The common ones are below.

Help and privacy

Write to mike@pointrover.com with a question about connecting or about a figure.

The connector reads your businesses' boards and nothing else. It writes nothing, and it never reads your assistant's memory, chat history or files. What we collect, and why, is in the privacy policy. The terms of service cover use of the service.
